"From Shoreline to School Line" is a transformative education initiative aimed at eliminating the geographic, economic, and social barriers that hinder thousands of children in coastal Zanzibar from attending school. Background and Context:

Zanzibar’s coastal and island communities are rich in culture and history but face acute challenges when it comes to education access. In remote fishing villages and shoreline settlements, children often walk long distances—sometimes more than 5 kilometers—through difficult terrain to reach the nearest school. This discourages attendance, particularly among girls, and contributes to low literacy rates and high dropout rates.

Lack of transportation, inadequate school infrastructure, and economic hardship compound these challenges. Girls are particularly vulnerable, often dropping out early due to safety concerns or cultural expectations. This project recognizes the critical intersection between access, equity, and opportunity.

The project has four primary goals:
