Zanzibar—our home of white beaches, coral reefs, and spice forests—is under threat from climate change and environmental destruction. Rising sea levels, coral bleaching, deforestation, and plastic pollution are changing our island, and not for the better.

So here’s our WISHLIST for a cleaner, greener Zanzibar:

1. Clean Oceans, Not Plastic Soup

We wish for...

• Bans on single-use plastics in all schools and homes
• More beach clean-up days led by students
• Plastic recycling bins in every school!

2. Protect Our Forests & Mangroves

We wish for...

• Tree-planting projects in every district
• Community awareness campaigns on the importance of mangroves
• Stronger laws against illegal logging

3. Green Energy for a Bright Future

We wish for...

• Solar panels on school rooftops
• Wind energy projects supported by youth science clubs
• Eco-clubs teaching sustainable living in every school

4. Climate Education Now!

We wish for...

• Climate change lessons in all subjects
• School projects that track local weather changes
• Youth voices in national climate policy discussions

5. Protect Our Coral Reefs & Marine Life

We wish for...

• Community snorkel patrols to monitor reef health
• Marine conservation education in schools
• Partnerships with local fishers for sustainable practices
