Transforming Zanzibar into Africa’s Model of Sustainable Island Living
Project Overview
Zanzibar 2030: A Climate-Resilient Island Vision is a bold, forward-thinking initiative to transform Zanzibar into one of the world's most climate-resilient, eco-smart, and socially inclusive island regions by the year 2030. This visionary project is designed to future-proof Zanzibar against the intensifying impacts of climate change while fostering sustainable economic growth, community well-being, and environmental stewardship.
By integrating cutting-edge green technologies, community-led adaptation strategies, sustainable tourism practices, and resilient infrastructure, Zanzibar 2030 will serve as a replicable model for small island developing states (SIDS) globally.
Project Objectives
Climate Adaptation & Resilience:
- Develop adaptive infrastructure to protect coastlines, ecosystems, and communities from sea level rise, storms, and droughts.
Sustainable Energy Transition:
- Achieve 75% renewable energy generation through solar, wind, and tidal sources by 2030.
Blue Economy Development:
- Expand sustainable fisheries, marine conservation zones, and eco-tourism to boost the economy without degrading ecosystems.
